These were available in 6 card packs and packaged 24 packs per box with 24 boxes per case. The first 500 cases off the presses were stamped with the silver 1 on the front as a parallel to the normal series 2 cards (101 – 200). Card #183 is the first card of Dale Earnhardt Jr. There are also First Day One Gold foils inserted 1 per every few packs.
1991 Traks Racing Box Break – Jeff Gordon Rookie Year
In honor of Jeff Gordon’s 85th win I thought it would be good to do a 1991 Traks Wax Box break. Each Wax Box has 36 packs with 15 cards per pack. I mention 30 packs in the video but there are 36 packs per box.
This box yielded 4 Jeff Gordon rookies in a row and 5 in total.
1988 Maxx Racing – 5 Pack Break (Charlotte Printing)
The 1988 Maxx racing set is the release that put NASCAR cards on the map. This was the first time NASCAR cards were available in ‘packs’ and sold somewhere other than the race tracks. There were 44 packs per 1988 Maxx box and you could also order the 100-card factory set from Maxx as well. Every Header card had an offer on the back to purchase a complete factory set directly from Maxx.
The 1988 Maxx set contains cards from 3 printings. The Charlotte name refers to what was believed to be the location of the second and third printings, although all three printings took place at the same location (Sheriar Press – located in Myrtle Beach, SC). The Charlotte set is often called the “First Annual Edition” by collectors. It contains numerous variations from the Myrtle Beach set (First Edition).
The Variations:
The cover cards were printed with two different starburst descriptions (pack versus factory set) in both the Charlotte and Myrtle Beach versions. During the second printing, 10 cards including the two variations of the cover card were changed.
The special offer price ($19.95) was changed prior to the second printing to $21.45 on the cover cards.
The Myrtle Beach notation was removed from the four checklist cards.
The Talladega Streaks #10 card was eliminated to make room for Darrell Waltrip.
Checklist #19 was changed to reflect this move.
On card #26 Phil Parsons, his wife’s name was included in the family section on the back of the card. It was excluded in the first Myrtle Beach printing.
During the third printing of the set, six cards were changed. The #59 1988 Begins card was eliminated to make room for the #59 Brett Bodine card. Checklist #69 was changed to reflect this move. The #43 Daytona International Speedway card was changed to card #47. The #47 Single File card was eliminated. Richard Petty was included in the set on card #43. Checklist #36 was updated to reflect the changes on cards #43 and #47. On the #88 Ken Bouchard card, the family section was changed to reflect the fact that he and his fiancée, Heidi, were married during the season. There is also a card #99 of Dale Earnhardt that was originally wasn’t released due to Maxx not getting approval from Dale. The card was later issued with a sticker on it via an insert redemption in the 1994 Maxx Medallion .
2015 Press Pass Racing Blaster Box
By now everyone has heard that Press Pass has closed it’s doors.
This is the last set Press Pass released before they closed their doors for good. It seems that all Hobby boxes are gone but you can still find Blaster boxes at Target and Walmart.
Here is a 2015 Target Blaster Box break.
2010 Wheels Element Racing Blaster Box Break
Here is a 2010 Wheels Element Blaster Box Break. It’s a good looking product with rookie cards for Danica Patrick and Trevor Bayne.
2014 Press Racing Blaster Box Break
Well the 2014 NASCAR season is almost here. I don’t know of a better way to get ready for the 2014 Daytona 500 than with a box break.
Press Pass always kicks off the NASCAR season with the regular Press Pass brand release. The set is 100 cards with 7 subsets like Snapshots, Giving Back, Ground Crew and Hot Seat.
Inserts include color proof base set parallels, Replay, Velocity, Hall of Fame, Zero Card and Cup Chase.

2012 Ignite Racing Blaster Box Break
I found a retail box at Walmart to break. The retail boxes have one autographed Relic or Relic card plus one color Proof base Parallel card in each box.
This is the first year for the IGNITE line of cards from Press Pass. This issue reminds me of the Press Pass VIP line they use to put out. The cards are nice with close up driver portraits on a colored background. The driver portrait is in an oval which has a glossy finish while the edges do not. The bottom of the card has some silver foil wings and the driver name is also in silver foil in a little oval that has a flame background. The back shows the driver standing in their driver’s suit and a little write-up about their 2011 accomplishment. The cards overall are very nice with a very large driver photo on the front. These cards would be great to get autographed once you remove the gloss due to the great up close photos. I liked the Top Speed subset cards (51 – 70) because the cards are very colorful. The glossy picture of the driver’s car pops out against the rest of the card which does not have any gloss on the card front. The backs have a head shot of the driver with the same photo of the car with some information about the 2012 Daytona 500 their qualifying speeds.
If I had any negatives about this issue it would be the drivers name on the front. The name is hard to read due to the silver foil and small font. If you tilt the card the name looks good in some angles but not others. The driver’s full name and copyright or trade mark logo are on one single line. The type on the back is small with no driver stats but there is a great full length photo of the driver in their driver suit to draw your eye to.
Inserts: The inserts are nice but the Limelight and Profile inserts kind of look alike due to the heavy foil fronts.
2012 Total Memorabilia Racing Blaster Box Break
I picked up one of those 2012 Total Memorabilia Retail Boxes at Target. The video of the break is below as well as the cards.
I am not sure how I feel about these cards. I think Press Pass does a good job and for a company with a monopoly on NASCAR cards they don’t act like it. This year they are retiring some of the product lines and creating a few new ones. They never take the collector for granted and it shows by their great products, listening to the customer and 5 star customer service. Like what I did there, 5 Star.
This is one of their new product lines. For me it just dint do it. I think the 19.99 price point for this is high. I think this might be better at a 9.99 price point and the memorabilia cards have too much empty space. The photo is 1/4 of the card and the swatch is an 1/8 of the card which leaves a lot of foil. I like the concept but this seems too much like FanFare, which was very colorful and I really enjoyed it.
I applaud Press Pass for trying but I think this one gets lapped by Fanfare.
2012 Press Pass Ignite Racing – 4 Pack Break
I found some packs at Target so I thought I would do a 4 pack break. This is the first year for the IGNITE line of cards from Press Pass. This issue reminds me of the Press Pass VIP line they use to put out. The cards are nice with close up driver portraits on a colored background. The driver portrait is in an oval which has a glossy finish while the edges do not.
